The IMAGE 2013 Conference, sponsored by The IMAGE Society, was held 3-6 June at the Chaparral Suites Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. Due to the "sequester", except for NASA participation, attendance by U.S. government/military personnel was noticeably lacking with a few contractor exceptions.
Following a display course presented on Monday afternoon, a "Welcoming Reception" was held that evening to kick-off the conference. This social event was hosted by CAE (the Prime Host), who provided complimentary food & beverages, as well as coffee breaks, and a buffet luncheon & 'beer bash' in the Exhibit Hall on Wednesday.
The conference opened on Tuesday morning with the Keynote Address by Mr. Andrew Fernie, CAE Systems Engineering Manager, "Is COTS Really a Four Letter Word?". The remainder of the Technical Program consisted of 21 technical papers; a "The VisSim Market 2013 & Beyond" consisting of two sub-panels: "Industry VisSim Technical Perspectives" and "US Military/NASA VisSim Requirements", four technical short courses; exhibit hall, host/exhibitor presentations, and IDEAS Display Research meeting. The high level of enthusiasm and interest generated at last year's conference continued at this year's event demonstrated by the high level of attendance at all of the sessions.
SPECIAL GRATITUDE is extended to: CAE's Mr. Andrew Fernie, Keynote Speaker and Mr. Philippe Perey, Conference Chairman & Master of Ceremonies; FlightSafety for providing the tri-fold programs, Barco for audio-visual equipment/technical support; the hosting organizations CAE (prime host), FlightSafety, Barco, and TerraSim. Mike Mulvenon (ret.), Barbara Sweet, Mark Adducchio), panel moderator (Bob McGahan), presenters of the 21 papers; course instructors (Dave Janke, Bernie Lalonde, Paul Lyon, Dave McKeown); the exhibitors, IDEAS Display Research Meeting chair, Charles Lloyd; and to all the attendees that made IMAGE 2013 a success.
