The IMAGE 2017 Conference was held 27-28 June 2017 at the University of Dayton River Campus in Dayton, Ohio. Attendance in 2017 was up 12% over 2016 with US Gov't/Military attendees (USAF, USN, and NASA) accounting for 32% of all the attendees. Without identifying specific individuals I would like to recognize & welcome our newcomers and those who have missed a few years including: Atmospheric & Environmental Research, Carl Zeiss AG, Daimler AG, Mechdyne Corporation, Navitar, NAWC-TSD, norex, Ohio State Univ. College of Optometry, PLW Modelworks, Presagis, SA Photonics, and Third Dimension Technologies.
Tuesday morning (27 June) Mr. Scott Whitaker (Boeing Conference Chairman & Master of Ceremonies) opened the conference with welcoming remarks and introduced the Keynote Speaker, Col. Dan Marticello USAF - chief Simulators Program Office. Following the keynote address the G&M Exhibitors "Greeted" the attendees with their ten minute presentations and "Met" with them during the Luncheon Social at their demonstration tables. G&M Exhibitors included Boeing (Prime Host), Esterline (Resident Host), Bohemia Interactive Simulations, CAE, Canon, FlightSafety International, JVCKenwood, Merlin Flight Simulation, Navitar, Scalable Display Technologies, Third Dimension Technologies, and Westar Display Technologies.
Following lunch were two days of technical presentations in the five Paper Sessions: Display Systems I (chair: Harry Streid), Display Systems II (chair: Rod Sterling), Image Generation Technologies (chair: Bill Paone), Synthetic Natural Environments (chair: Patrick Piché), and Vision Science (chair: Logan Williams). Tuesday evening our attendees were invited by the University of Dayton's Dean of the School of Engineering, Dr. Eddy Rojas, to a tour of the Kettering Laboratories hosted by Dr. Vijayan Asari, Director of the Vision Laboratory. The tour consisted of demonstrations at the the Vision and Flight Simulation laboratories. Due to physical lab space capacity participation was limited to those that replied to the RSVP on a first come - first served basis.
Technical Paper Sessions continued all day Wednesday with the conference adjourning at 1700 hours.
On behalf of the IMAGE Society and all of the attendees appreciation is extended to our Prime Host: The BOEING Company for providing the daily complimentary luncheons & beverage breaks; our Resident Host: Esterline Simulation Visual Systems (computer & photography - Paul Lyon) ; and Scott Whitaker Conference Chairman & Master of Ceremonies for for masterfully keeping the conference activities on schedule with the assistance of Harry Streid.
